Carter Cup Chairman's Word

"The CESSAC sponsored Carter Cup is an annual charity football tournament that has been organised by the Cyprus Services Referees Association since 1973. Regarded as the traditional curtain-raiser to each new Cyprus Services football season, this years event will be held on Sat 10 Sep 2011 at RAF Akrotiri. Pitches are reduced in size to allow the teams to play a 7-a-side format. There is no offside, and full-size goals are used, so there is plenty of incentive for exciting attacking play. This year's event will include teams from the UK, British Forces in Cyprus and the local Cypriot communities."

The Aims of the Carter Cup tournament are as follows;

• To encourage and promote football development at all levels.
• To encourage and promote community and team spirit.
• To raise money for: Station Welfare and Station Charities and local Cypriot Charities
• To ensure good public relations and publicity for RAF Akrotiri, British Forces Cyprus, the Sponsors and the Military as a whole.
• To ensure enjoyment for participants and Akrotiri/BFC Community
